The Humboldt Chronicle. article by April G. Jackson

O'Neal Henley grew up in the cotton mill neighborhood that was located on the outskirts of Humboldt in the early 1950s. His family had Henley Grocery, which his mother ran, on Avondale near the railroad tracks and across the street from the cotton mill, a Jones Manufacturing yard plant. The book is a humorous and nostalgic account of a group of boys age six to sixteen that learn from life experiences in the early 50s. It's a true account of the lives of Henley and his friends, many of whom are still living in Humboldt today. "Good things come out of growing up that way," he says.
